Thoughts From the Bercot Weekend
Over 120 people recently heard David Bercot speak on the theme ‘The Spirit of Early Christianity.’ The Saturday session was held at a historic Methodist church building in Monrovia, California. On Sunday we assembled for worship at Veteran’s park in Sylmar, California. There was a mix of people spiritually—Anabaptist, International Church of Christ, Church of God, Mormon, among others. The ladies also were blessed to have a session directed by David’s wife Deborah.
I still have many thoughts racing through my mind from the spiritual high I had from this weekend. One thought that I have been thinking about a great deal from this event is the need to have unity in the body of Christ. David has helped me to realize though that unity does not mean that I will be in agreement with everything my brother believes. There are some issues that are ‘non-negotiable’ like believing that Jesus Christ is the son of God. Other issues are left open to individual decisions like exactly what modest style clothing to wear. Christians divide over such trivial matters it seems. I hope I can continue to strive to promote unity in Jesus’ body. I’m growing in this area. I fellowshipped with a number of people this past weekend that I probably would have had little to do with only a short while ago. DW
